Gesture & Interaction Design

Designing Next Generation Embodied Interactions

Our platform empowers UX designers to prototype and test intricate micro-gestures and embodied interactions utilizing gaze, hand and finger movements. This allows for early Human-in-the-Loop validation of novel multi-modal HMI concepts, ensuring these next-gen controls are intuitive, safe, and established years before production, closing the gap between vision and testable experience.

    FAQ

    Product & Target Audience

Ordinary Objects is a mixed reality (MR) prototyping platform designed to accelerate the validation of complex spatial user experiences. It allows design teams to create, test, and refine high-fidelity interactive simulations for vehicles and interiors at true scale.
While Ordinary Objects is exceptionally powerful for automotive UX use cases, it can be utilized in any industry where spatial planning, previewing, and pre-experiencing are essential. For example:

Interior Architects can use it to plan and preview layouts for retail spaces, residential building lobbies, or public areas.

Digital Agencies can prototype spatial productivity and entertainment apps.

Universities can incorporate it into spatial UX curricula.
Ordinary Objects is focused on prototyping user flows for spatial computing apps and services. Its workflow emphasizes interactions, embodiment, and physical sensing capabilities such such as surface anchoring. It is currently the only XR design tool that allows designers to define complex anchoring flows and add an unlimited number of anchors.
It is first and foremost a prototyping platform. You can import 3D assets, and use the platform to define, simulate, and validate the behavior, interactions, and spatial placement of objects and interfaces, allowing for rapid iteration and testing of user flows.

    Technical & Compatibility

The platform consists of two parts: the Editor (for creating prototypes) and the Mirror (for testing in MR). You need a computer (macOS or Windows) for the Editor, and a compatible MR/XR headset or device for the Mirror.
The Ordinary Objects Mirror App currently supports: visionOS (Apple Vision Pro), Meta Quest (Quest 3), and iOS/iPadOS. This ensures broad accessibility for testing spatial experiences.
You can import a variety of assets: 3D models using .GLB (including animations), static textures/UIs with .PNG / .JPG, audio files such as .WAV / .MP3 for spatialized sound and .MP4 to add video elements and effects.
    Details in the docs
Yes. Ordinary Objects supports real-time collaboration across both the Editor and Mirror applications. Any changes made by a designer in the Editor are instantly synchronized to all collaborators testing the prototype in their respective Mirror headsets.
Currently, we support the manual import of custom files. If you are looking for specific integrations with tools like Alias or VRED, please reach out to our team—we are actively seeking feedback for future development.
Yes. You can export individual prototype states as .glb files. For a step-by-step guide on how to export states, please refer to our documentation.

    Features & Workflow

Our platform provides dedicated tools to prototype and test embodied interactions. It natively surfaces available features like head, hand, and finger tracking, which designers can then utilize to create custom micro-interactions and gestures. This workflow enables designers to refine next-gen HMI concepts that are both intuitive and safe.
These are core features for MR realism. Plane Anchors allow you to seamlessly align virtual objects with real-world physical surfaces (like a dashboard). Spatial Anchors let you lock virtual content to a specific point in 3D space, ensuring persistence and stability within the environment.
Yes, we are currently in free beta. You can download the Editor and Mirror apps and begin prototyping immediately. For advanced users and teams, we offer upgrade packages that unlock higher upload and usage limits.
